Sisterhood of the Good Death Festival aka Festa da Boa Morte drops this year on (August 13-15-2019) in Cachoeira Brazil. New this year, we are featuring a 2-day, pre-festival add-on package that perfectly compliments your festival excursion(s).
Your host for this year's tour will our Bahia tour coordinator, Andre, the "private guide to the stars" in Salvador and Bahia state. Having both worked with U.S. President Bill Clinton and internationally known, celebrity chef, travel guru, the (late) great Anthony 'Tony' Bourdain, the moment, nor the task, will ever be too big for Andre (see profile) For sure, on this tour, as always, Andre will present to you and your group an exhilarating introduction to the true authentic vibe of Festa da Boa Morte.
To book our Good Death Festival package we suggest that you arrive in Brazil at Salvador International Airport (SSA) by Saturday, August 10, to begin your exciting journey of discovery in the state of Bahia with an activities schedule that includes our authentic, signature excursion Salvador Historical City Tour that's centered in the historically rich Pelourinho district.
Your trip to Cachoeira features annual luncheon on the famous hillside valley vista point before we kickoff Festa da Boa Morte 2019 on Tuesday, August 13th. (This tour excursion can be booked separately or with your existing itinerary)
We can make hotel arrangements for your group to stay in Cachoeira for the entire 3-day festival, or you can commute for the 3-day festival from your hotel in Salvador if you choose to experience this historical event that way.
Testimonial to a living tribute of African Diaspora in Brazil is The Good Death Festival aka (Festa da Boa Morte) which originated in Salvador Bahia at a time when Blacks were denied access to Catholic ceremonies.
We offer a very engaging group excursion to Cachoeira each year for this world famous event highlighting the Sisterhood of Our Lady of the Good death (Irmandade da Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte) the renowned Afro-Catholic religion group.
Founded in the early 19th century as a Church-sponsored beneficent Sisterhood for female African slaves and former slaves, it became one of the oldest and most respected worship groups for Candomblé, the major African-based religion in Brazil.
Sisterhood of the Good Death tour packages can be booked separately or combined with our African Heritage City Tour that explores Salvador's historic Pelourinho District, once a major slave market and home to Salvador's Afro-Brazilian museum. We welcome single travelers and travel groups (4-35) to join us for this must-see fascinating Candomblé religion festival. It’s worth a special trip to Cachoeira, a small hamlet about 2 hours, by luxury coach, west of Salvador to witness this event.
Our trusted government travel partners at Bahiaturisa have always given us the necessary support that our Salvador based travel team needs to deliver authentic travel experiences to all of our travel guests; whether you're booking a (half-day) group tour excursion, or a (week-long) private tropical getaway on the pristine Marau located on Bahia's sexy southern Dendê Coast.
